Education Specialist (EdS) - Special Education

National University’s education specialist with specialization in special education prepares you to face the challenging legal issues confronting special education programs. You will explore these broader roles related to implementing special education programs, data, monitoring student progress across programs, and the intersection of leadership, law, and finance. You will demonstrate your knowledge and skills in a capstone course at the end of your special education coursework. This specialization focuses on special education from a broader perspective than a single classroom, including your potential as a leader-practitioner and administrator. Throughout this program, you will develop skills to support educational practices across diverse instructional and organizational settings, communicate with diverse audiences about educational theories, research, and practices, and apply evidence-based solutions for addressing educational, organizational, and societal issues. This program will prepare you for a career as a school district administrator of special education programs. This specialization can also prepare you to pursue doctoral studies in special education at NU.
