Diploma in Facilities Maintenance

The new Facilities Maintenance program prepares students to professionally service, maintain, repair, and install equipment found in a wide variety of commercial and residential buildings.

As a student of the facilities maintenance program you will experience a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on learning experiences that will introduce you to the many facets of working in the facilities maintenance field. This will include topics such as troubleshooting and repair, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration, grounds keeping, carpentry and masonry, electrical, and other day-to-day maintenance and operational tasks typically found in the field.

You will gain skills and experience in a variety of trades areas. Classes in HVACR systems will teach you entry level techniques to maintain and repair HVAC equipment and systems in residential and commercial settings. The plumbing curriculum includes instruction in the use of appropriate tools, types of piping, various fittings, how to cut pipe, and unclogging blockages using traditional and environmentally-friendly methods. You will also become familiar with operation and maintenance of various types of water heaters.

Principles of electricity and how it works in residential and commercial settings is another important topic. You will study electrical safety and the principles and methods for installing, repairing, and troubleshooting basic electrical circuits, devices, and appliances.

The program also includes instruction on the many different types of masonry building components (i.e. bricks and blocks) as well as procedures needed to for carpentry and painting projects. Students will gain skills in groundskeeping using hand and power tools and equipment, and the maintenance and repair of tools including air-cooled engines, fuel and lubrication systems, and carburetors.

After successful completion of this program, students will possess the in-demand and marketable employment skills to successfully gain employment in the facilities maintenance field.
