Master of Medical Science Anesthesiologist Assistant

South University hasdeveloped a Master of Medical Science in Anesthesiologist Assistant degree program that provides education in current practices in anesthesiology and seeks to instill the highest standards of professionalism and service to patients and the community.

Our Anesthesiologist Assistant program strives to enhance the overall knowledge and practice of the anesthesia care team by providing you with proficiencies in physiology, pharmacology, patient monitoring, anesthesia equipment and the principles of safe anesthesia care. The program consists of 169 quarter hours of classroom, laboratory and clinical work, and takes place over the course of nine quarters or 28 months.

In the first year of instruction you’ll spend time in the classroom and laboratory gaining increasing clinical responsibilities. During your second year, you’ll participate in multiple full-time, month-long clinical rotations in practice settings, incorporating a full range of surgical procedures involving patients of all ages, at all levels and depth of illness.

As a student in the Anesthesiologist Assistant program you’ll:

- Receive the necessary foundation in biomedical and anesthesia sciences for understanding the basis of safe and efficacious delivery of anesthesia care
- Develop the fundamental skills and judgment necessary for safe and efficacious delivery of anesthesia care
- Learn effective communication skills for patient care and interaction with other members of the healthcare team
- Receive encouragement to acquire and evaluate medical information effectively, efficiently, and critically.
