Doctor of Philosophy in Education - Special Education

National University’s Doctor of Philosophy in Education with specialization in special education focuses on special education from a broader perspective than a single classroom. This broader perspective includes your potential as a leader and researcher in the field of special education. You will explore these broader roles related to program implementation, data analysis, programmatic student monitoring, and the intersection of leadership, law, and finance. You will demonstrate your knowledge and skills in a specialization capstone course that will continue your preparation toward being a special education scholar. Throughout this program, you will apply human development theories to instructional methods supporting developmentally appropriate and academically challenging learning experiences for students, model ethical behavior in all aspects of the profession, and evaluate instructional and assessment practices ensuring student mastery of the content. This specialization provides you with the knowledge and skills to implement the six pillars of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA).
